Food can be fabulous but it can also be frustrating, we enjoy eating but we worry about our weight. We want to eat healthily but struggle to fit this in with what we can afford and what is convenient. The children like one thing and you like another. On the other hand we all buy food every week and with a few small changes in our habits we can gradually eat more healthily, reduce our carbon ‘foodprint’ and help the local community. Food contributes to our footprint in several ways. It has to be grown, then processed, packaged up and finally transported. Each of these involves using energy. It can be difficult to decide what foods are best to buy. However, choosing food that is local, in season, perhaps organic and with the least packaging, will give you a good start. |
