Here, in Callander, we are lucky enough to live amongst the stunning Bens and Lochs of the Trossachs with its abundance of trees, plants, birds, and mammals (and other wee beasties!). Biodiversity provides many of the systems we take for granted like naturally filtered water, pollination, breaking down waste, fertilising the soil and removing CO2 from the air to replace it with oxygen. As the climate changes, plants and animals are put under pressure, but with our help our local environment will survive and thrive. In order to help maintain the biodiversity of life in the National Park, the Park Authority has developed the National Park's biodiversity action plan. The Great Trossachs Forest project by the Scottish Forest Alliance aims to plant areas of mixed native woodland and other native habitats to ensure the continuation of the areas biodiversity. 2010 is the United Nation's International Year of Biodiversity, reflecting the fact that biodiversity is vital for the survival of our planet, and for our food, medicines and other resources.
