Callander and Climate Change is a subgroup of the Callander Community Development Trust. It was set up in 2006 by a small group of dedicated local residents, who were concerned about the impact of climate change on Callander, on Scotland and on a global level. The group, among whom David and Margaret Warnock, set out to raise awareness in the community about climate change and its direct and indirect consequences. In 2009, Callander and Climate Change successfully applied for funding with the Scottish Climate Challenge Fund, a government initiative to support local groups in raising awareness about and dealing with climate change. This resulted in the hiring of a team of local professionals to support Callander residents in building a sustainable future for our precious little town. Callander and Climate Change now has the overall aims of:

1. Initiating projects and engaging and working alongside community groups to reduce carbon emissions and build a more resilient and sustainable future for Callander.

2. Encouraging and enabling members of the community to embrace and adopt sustainable values in daily lifestyle choices.

New project for 2011/12!

We have now ended our first project, and we have been successful in our application with the Climate Challenge Fund for our new 2011/12 project. We have worked hard to include the ideas that have come from the community over the last year. We will be continuing our work to reduce carbon emissions and build a more resilient and sustainable future for Callander by helping people to find lower carbon ways to travel, grow and eat more local, seasonal and organic food and save energy in their homes. Over the next year projects will include a lift share scheme for commuters and shoppers, helping parents and pupils reduce carbon emissions from journeys to school, setting up allotments and help householders to find low cost energy saving measures.
